CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SWIMMERS, PARENTS & COACHES

The Huntington Estates Seahawks Swim Team (HEST) is committed to providing a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all members—swimmers, coaches, and families. This Code of Conduct is designed to safeguard the well-being of every individual and to promote respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship both in and out of the pool.

All swimmers, parents, and coaches are expected to uphold the following standards throughout the swim season. Concerns or complaints should be brought to the attention of the HEST Parent Board. Download a PDF of this Code of Conduct

  • Respect all meet and practice rules and accept officials' decisions without argument.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times—win or lose.
  • Play fairly, avoid cheating, and never use violence or aggression.
  • Avoid inappropriate peer pressure and never push someone into doing something they’re uncomfortable with.
  • Refrain from bullying, rough play, or exclusion—whether in person or via social media or texting.
  • Use respectful language at all times; offensive, inappropriate, or discriminatory language will not be tolerated.
  • Arrive on time to practices and meets or communicate with the coach if a delay is expected.
  • Pay all fees and meet dues promptly.
  • Keep team equipment and pool facilities in good condition.
  • Prioritize safety—for themselves and others.
  • Report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior to a coach or parent board member.
  • Be honest, trustworthy, and gracious in both victory and defeat.
  • Make HEST a positive and fun experience for everyone involved.

Swimmers have the Right to:

  • Feel safe and supported at practices and meets.
  • Be heard and respected.
  • Be treated fairly and without discrimination.
  • Enjoy the sport of swimming in a positive, team-focused atmosphere.
  • Be protected from abuse, harassment, or bullying.
  • Ask for help when needed.
  • Be referred to professional support if appropriate.
  • Participate in a way that reflects their age and ability.
  • Receive encouragement and guidance from coaches and mentors.

Consequences for Violations

Failure to follow the HEST Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action based on the severity and frequency of the behavior. Consequences may include:

  • A verbal warning.
  • Removal from a practice or meet event.
  • Suspension from upcoming meet(s) or team activities.
  • In serious cases, or repeated offenses, dismissal from the team.

Each situation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the coaching staff, parent(s)/guardian(s), and the HEST Parent Board. If necessary, a swimmer may be required to be supervised one-on-one by a parent or qualified caregiver during practices or meets to ensure the safety of all participants.

Together, we can ensure that the Huntington Estates Seahawks Swim Team is a place where every swimmer thrives, grows, and enjoys being part of something special.
